RLRR Spay/Neuter Clinic Day 3 - May, 2009

Carson (formerly known as Canine), who is now in foster care at All Dog Rescue.

Bonnie the visla, who is now in foster care with visla rescue. Bonnie came from the same home as did Carson.

Melvin and Bronson help check in some dogs for altering.

The peace pole that Animal Ark brought for RLRR. On the side facing the camera is animal foot prints - the other sides say "May Peace Prevail on Earth" - in different languages - Karen's specifically says "May Peace Prevail in our Community".

Sonya and Bronson hang out with Bonnie.

Bub the American Bulldog. Karen spotted him when we were driving around picking up dogs to bring in for spay/neuter, and convinced the family that they should surrender him when she saw the horrible condition he was in. I was going to foster him, but my current foster is still recovering from surgery on her knee and is being a terrible patient!

Tinkerbell the husky mix. Tink was too scared to go anywhere for now; she is safely out at RLRR so she can settle down and feel safe.

Sonya with a very pathetic little old pom mix - he is currently at Akin Hills Vet Hospital, where he will have an eye and likely all of his teeth removed.

Bub again. Aside from his horrific level of starvation, he is also heartworm and Lyme positive.

Another photo of poor Bub's skeletal frame.

Kelly, who is now knows as Aurora and is in foster care at All Dog Rescue. The patch on her back is where she was shaved down to receive injections for heartworm treatment. She has recovered beautifully and will be ready to be adopted after her final HW treatment this week.

Another photo of Aurora.

Bub and me.

One more of Bub.

Denise trying to account for all of the kitties - there were multiple litters of grey and grey/white kitties, and it's not always easy to keep them straight!

A couple of kitties that were altered.

On day three, we all attended a ceremony where Animal Ark presented a peace pole to Karen and RLRR. Elders from Red Lake attended, as did all of the volunteers.

Kevin played guitar and sang at the ceremony.

I got to go out to RLRR and help Karen at the shelter for a short time. These are some of the puppies at the shelter.

The "pod" type kennels are really cool - each side has an entry into one half of the central built-in doghouses.

The shelter building itself is a roundhouse

This cat has a two-room suite in the roundhouse!

The beautiful ceiling of the roundhouse

I met too many dogs - can't remember all of the names - this guy is recovering from heartworm

This beautiful brindle boy was headed back to Animal Ark

Blondie and Izzy. Izzy got really sick on the second day, but recovered very quickly and as you can see, both girls are looking great. Pet Haven will be taking both once Karen is confident that they are in full health.

Grandpa - one of the resident dogs at RLRR.

Timid Tinkerbell in her kennel at RLRR. She appeared significantly less scared once she was out of the clinic and in her kennel at RLRR.

To more of the resident dogs at the shelter (can't remember their names - sorry!)

This St. Bernard came in with a chow chow - both were in horrible shape, full of infection and heartworm and severely dehydrated and malnourished. This guy was one of the sickest dogs to come in.

This chow chow came in with the St. Bernard. Her coat was in such horrible shape it took three volunteers hours to shave her down. They found unbelievable things matted into her coat - an entire tootsie pop, for example. Healthwise, she is in as bad of shape as the St. Bernard.

The chow chow getting shaved.

She had bags and bags of matts.

She has to feel a little better now.

This is where Walker (formerly Warrior) was found by a RLRR volunteer - he had been brutally attacked by three dogs and left for dead along the road. He has since recovered and been adopted into a loving forever home!

Griffin (formerly Smokey) spent the night at the resort with Sonya and me. He is now in foster care with Sonya.
